School-wide Learning Expectations

The mission of Saint Joseph Catholic Elementary School is to teach as Jesus taught, instilling Catholic values, beliefs, and traditions through quality education and Christ-like living.

It is with this mission statement in mind that we have established our school-wide learning expectations.  The expectations are defined as what a student should know, understand, and to be able to do by graduation.

 A GRADUATE OF SAINT JOSEPH IS:

 1A CHILD OF FAITH WHO

     a. Demonstrates knowledge of Catholic faith, traditions, and values

     b. Grows in relationship with God through participation in liturgy

     c. Expresses acquired knowledge and understanding of prayers

     d. Gives support to service through time, talent, and gift

 2.  A LIFE-LONG LEARNER WHO

     a. Works toward his/her full academic potential

     b. Adheres to the curricula requirements of the State of Utah and the Diocese of Salt Lake City

     c. Demonstrates and applies organizational and study skills

 3. AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR AND CRITICAL THINKER WHO

     a. Articulates clearly, accurately, and creatively using verbal, written, or technological expression

     b. Thinks independently while developing insight and exercising fair-mindedness

     c. Develops confidence in expressing ideas and opinions

     d. Listens actively and is receptive to new ideas

4.  A SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN WHO

     a. Strives to treat self, others, and the environment with value, respect, and courtesy

     b. Accepts and respects diversity

     c. Is aware of current events both domestic and global

     d. Works independently and cooperatively
